Mark B. Harrison

Mark Harrison is chair of Venable's Trademarks, Copyrights and Domain Names Practice Group. One of the top trademark attorneys in the United States, he focuses on trademark, unfair competition, and copyright within intellectual property law, including the pharmaceutical industry. Mr. Harrison has handled trademark work for a global pharmaceutical company and a number of foreign pharmaceutical start-ups and domestic nutritional supplement companies.

Mr. Harrison has practiced in his field for over 30 years. He is a former Examining Attorney of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He received awards for being in the top 20 filers of U.S. trademark applications for each of the years in 2002 through 2009, and is known as a top obtainer of registrations. Mr. Harrison has supervised the filing of trademark applications in virtually every country where such filings are possible, using his personally developed network of foreign associates. He is active in pro bono matters.

In Mr. Harrison's focus area of trademarks, the group ranks highly in two benchmark annual reports: ninth in U.S. trademark applications filed (Trademark Insider, pub. 2010); and 12th in U.S. trademark registrations issued (Intellectual Property Today, pub. 2010). The group ranks 1st in Washington, DC, the third-busiest trademark market in the country, in both reports.

Significant Matters
Mr. Harrison has successfully argued trademark cases before the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit as well as the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, several of which are citable as precedent.
