Mark Barrish co-leads the firm's Medical & Surgical Devices industry area. He focuses his practice on patent prosecution and counseling. His experience includes developing patent portfolios for growing companies, primarily in the medical device field. In addition to patent prosecution, Mr. Barrish provides strategic patent counseling, including identifying and reviewing competitor's patents, assisting in selection of disclosures for patenting, and presentations to product development teams.
Mr. Barrish has significant due diligence experience, including representing clients before potential investors, reviewing intellectual property for potential investment, representing clients throughout the Initial Public Offering process, evaluation of potential mergers, and participating in successful discussions with venture capitalists. His current practice includes opinion work, licensing, and representing clients before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Prior to entering the practice of law, Mr. Barrish was an engineer with Douglas Aircraft Company.
Mr. Barrish was recommended by Legal 500 US for Patent Prosecution in 2014 and the three years immediately preceding. He was selected as a “Life Science Star” in the 2012, 2013 and 2014 editions of LMG Life Sciences. Mr. Barrish was recognized as a top patent practitioner in 2014 by IAM Patent 1000 – The World’s Leading Patent Practitioners. He was also named the "2014 Patent Prosecution Medical Device Attorney of the Year" by the Legal Media Group.
