Mark J. Maier

Mark uses his background as an electrical engineer, business executive and U.S. Army officer to obtain and grow government contracts, efficiently close technology and intellectual property transactions, license FCC telecommunication frequencies and ensure data security. He leads the firm’s government contracts group and co-founded the firm’s data privacy and security team.

In addition to being a practicing attorney, Mark is also a colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves where he coordinates the federal government’s emergency response to requests by the state of Maryland for military assistance, civil support and homeland security. He works closely with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Department of Defense, Maryland National Guard, Maryland Emergency Management Agency and other federal, state and local responders. This post was created in the aftermath of 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina to improve emergency search and rescue, security, transportation, medical care and communications. Maier currently is assigned to the U.S. Army North’s Defense Coordinating Element for Region III and the U.S. Army Reserve’s 76th Operational Response Command.

Prior to this, Mark commanded the 392nd Expeditionary Signal Battalion, a tactical line unit with 500 soldiers in Pennsylvania, Maryland and Virginia. Under his command, the 392nd completed four summer and winter war exercises with 600 soldiers and 260 vehicles in California, New Jersey, Minnesota and Wisconsin. The unit engineers, installs, operates, maintains and protects tactical satellite, troposcatter and line-of-sight transmission systems, as well as network infrastructure and information technology systems. While called back to active duty for tours in Afghanistan and Iraq, Mark was the CIO (or “J6”) for his 5,000-person joint special operations task force and responsible for all communication and technology soldiers and systems used to conduct hundreds of successful raids against high-value targets. During this time, he also created a new capability now used by senior military and intelligence leaders in the global war on terror. Mark worked directly with the Iraqi chief judge and numerous coalition attorneys to establish part of Iraq’s new judicial system, known as the Central Criminal Court of Iraq.
