Mark Whitaker is a partner in the firm’s Intellectual Property Group. Mr. Whitaker brings to client matters more than 24 years of experience crafting litigation strategies before the U.S. district courts, the International Trade Commission, and the Court of Federal Claims.
In addition to the mechanical arts, Mr. Whitaker represents clients in electronics, telecommunications, chemical and software process patent disputes. He possesses an in-depth knowledge of the substantive and procedural complexities of patent litigation, having litigated cases in most of the top venues for patent litigation in the United States, including the following: Eastern District of Texas, District of Delaware, Eastern District of Virginia, District of New Jersey, Southern District of New York, District of Connecticut, Southern District of Texas, Central District of California, Northern District of California, Middle District of Florida, Western District of Wisconsin, and the District of Columbia.
Mr. Whitaker is a frequent speaker at meetings of the Practising Law Institute (PLI), American Bar Association Intellectual Property Law Section, American Intellectual Property Law Association, Minority Corporate Counsel Association, the Old Dominion Bar Association, and numerous law schools and local CLE events. Mr. Whitaker is president-elect of the American Intellectual Property Law Association, and serves as a member of the Council of the ABA Section of Intellectual Property Law. Mr. Whitaker is recommended by Super Lawyers as a Top Intellectual Litigation Attorney in Washington DC (2016) and by IAM 1000 (2014-2015).
Mr. Whitaker is a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served first as a surface warfare officer and later as a member of the Navy Judge Advocate General’s Corps. Following his military service, he began his private-practice legal career as a commercial litigator before concentrating on IP and technology litigation.
