Mark Oland concentrates his practice in commercial real estate law and finance, real estate loan workouts, and mortgage law. Mark has served on the board of directors of the Real Estate Finance Association, the Developer's Council and the Community Associations Institute. He has also served as an adviser to the Connecticut Law Revision Commission on a variety of real estate legislation, including the adoption of the Common Ownership Interest Act and its several amendments.
His clients include a number of developers of commercial and residential properties, including privately and publicly owned entities, real estate investment trusts, private equity funds, pension funds, and banking institutions. Mark has served as counsel to numerous developers of multifamily and common interest ownership communities and has drafted community documents for residential, commercial and mixed-use communities. He also represents a number of financial institutions in connection with both their real estate lending and equity investment activities.
Mark is currently representing a private equity firm in the acquisition of properties in multiple states as part of the acquisition of a corporation's assets. He is also representing a private equity firm in connection with the sale, leasing and financing of numerous commercial properties throughout Canada as part of a corporate acquisition.
Mark recently completed a 10-year representation of the city of Bristol and 14 other Connecticut municipalities in connection with their efforts to close a landfill and acquire the necessary real estate interests required from adjoining property owners. This representation involved issues of title, title insurance, environmental law and regulation, municipal law, and the necessity for drafting of legislation to be enacted by the state of Connecticut to permit Bristol and the other municipalities to complete the closure in accordance with state requirements.
Mark has been a speaker on a wide range of real estate law topics at seminars and conferences held by the Real Property Section of the American Bar Association, the Real Property Section of the Connecticut Bar Association, the American College of Real Estate Lawyers, the Community Association Institute, the American Law Institute and the Multi-Housing Conference.
