Mark W. DeMonte

Mark DeMonte focuses his practice on solving the most complex and difficult problems for clients. That focus has led to regularly representing clients through prelitigation settlement, as well as all phases of complex disputes before state and federal courts, administrative agencies, arbitrators, and mediators, including assessment of potential claims, defenses and settlement, discovery (including managing the costs of e-discovery), pretrial motion practice, trial, post-trial, and appeals. Mark has represented plaintiffs and defendants in a broad range of matters involving state law breach of contract claims, tortious interference, allegations of trade secret misappropriation, allegations of fraud, agency investigations, claims arising from state and federal False Claims Acts, and legal actions founded upon the Fourth, Fifth, and Fourteenth Amendments to the U.S. Constitution. He has also assisted with internal investigations conducted for clients to assess compliance with various state and federal laws.

As a graduate of the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) Rate School, Mark has a broad understanding of the complex legal issues facing regulated utilities, including issues relating to cost recovery, energy efficiency and demand response, new technologies, and data privacy. He regularly represents utility clients in regulatory proceedings before the Illinois Commerce Commission and in civil litigation before Illinois state and federal courts. He also assists in counseling utility clients on compliance with state laws and regulations.

Mark spends significant time on pro bono matters, serving on the Chicago Office's pro bono committee and counseling 501(c)(3) nonprofits.
