Martin’s practice includes corporate and securities laws, unincorporated business entities, including partnerships and limited liability companies, and real estate investment trusts. His securities practice involves private placements and public offerings, and he represents private and publicly held companies. Public company clients include several real estate investment trusts.

As part of his practice with unincorporated business entities Martin has for many years served on Virginia State Bar committees that have drafted and revised partnership and limited liability company legislation in Virginia. He is also a regular speaker on partnership, limited liability company and choice-of-entity matters.

One focus of Martin’s practice is the organization, public offering, securities compliance, and corporate operation and governance of real estate investment trusts, particularly those in the hospitality and multifamily sectors. Another area of focus is the analysis, negotiation, and recommendation, on behalf of both individual and entity clients, of proposed investments by such clients in a variety of privately-offered investment funds, including private equity, leveraged buy-out, energy-related, and hedge funds, both domestic and off-shore.

In 1977, Martin was elected to the membership of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi of the chapter at Michigan State University, and in 1978, Martin was elected to the membership of the Honor Society of Phi Beta Kappa of the chapter at Michigan State University.
