Melissa Arbus Sherry

Melissa Arbus Sherry is a partner in the Washington, D.C. office of Latham & Watkins. She is the local Co-chair of the Litigation & Trial Department and a member of Latham's Supreme Court & Appellate Practice. Ms. Sherry returned to Latham’s Washington, D.C. office in October 2014 after serving five years as an Assistant to the Solicitor General of the United States. In this role, Ms. Sherry represented the federal government before the Supreme Court and assisted in overseeing the government’s litigation in the federal appellate courts. Ms. Sherry has worked extensively with federal government agencies and various components within the Department of Justice.

Ms. Sherry has also drafted more than a hundred briefs before the Court, including in numerous commercial cases. Her expertise spans a wide range of areas, including intellectual property, securities fraud, healthcare, international law, employment discrimination, personal jurisdiction and equitable tolling.

Earlier in her career, Ms. Sherry was an associate at Latham. During that time, she briefed several appeals in the Second, Seventh, Ninth, Tenth and D.C. Circuits, as well as in state appellate courts, and she argued a case in the Second Circuit.
