Michael A. Banzhaf

Michael focuses his practice on obtaining and defending land- use entitlements for private and public clients. He has maintained business and professional contacts in California and Virginia, and is qualified to represent clients in both jurisdictions.

Michael’s California clients include The Irvine Company, the Orange County Board of Supervisors, the City of Beverly Hills, and the Sonora Gold Corporation. His Virginia clients include Toll Brothers, Carlyle/Cypress Equities, Kettler, and Clark Realty Capital.

Michael has secured for his clients a wide variety of approvals, including comprehensive plan amendments, rezonings, special exceptions/conditional use permits, subdivisions, and site plans. He also has extensive litigation experience with land- use matters, including CEQA, and has frequently appeared in local circuit court and superior court proceedings, as well as before boards of zoning appeals, boards of supervisors, planning commissions, town councils and boards of architectural review.

Further, Michael is a frequent author of articles for trade journals, concerning builder and developer issues, and he is a frequent lecturer on variety of real estate, land-use and environmental topics for the Virginia Continuing Legal Education (CLE).
