Michael D. Templeton

Michael Templeton is an associate of the firm. Michael works with clients solving problems by assisting in the preparation of patentability opinions, infringement opinions, patent applications, and responses to U.S. Patent and Trademark Office Actions. He also works with clients to prepare and prosecute trademark applications and prepare trademark infringement opinions.

Michael’s engineering background includes working for Nissan as a lead design engineer, an applications engineer at NTN Bearing Corporation, and also as a research and design intern at Faurecia Interior Systems. Michael’s past legal experience includes working as a law clerk at a Detroit-area IP law firm and a Chicago IP law firm.

Michael’s previous positions have allowed him to gain valuable knowledge, specifically, he performed patent searches to verify originality of new designs, responded to office actions in technologies ranging from children’s toys and medical devices to computer test systems, drafted an amended non-provisional application for Raster Processing Unit (RPU) for commercial printing, conducted research and analyzed data for the inter partes re-examination process, and supported a patent litigation case for web-based equity trading applications, focusing on obviousness arguments and evidentiary rules and procedures for the Federal Circuit courts. Michael has conducted research on the feasibility to copyright and patent useful articles and applicable designs for both types of protection. He also has a working knowledge of computer-aided engineering programs, including CATIA, NX, STATA, and Matlab. He also has expertise in Visual Basic, C/C++, and circuitry and motherboard integration.
