Michael Stoer has experience investigating and prosecuting a wide range of federal crimes. Prior to rejoining Jones Day in 2010, he was an Assistant U.S. Attorney working in the general crimes and narcotics sections of the U.S. Attorney's Office in the Eastern District of New York. During this time he argued numerous motions, participated in multiple hearings, and conducted five jury trials before the district court. He also appeared three times before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
Michael began his career in Jones Day's New York Office, where he worked for five years, and gained a wide range of litigation experience in matters at the state and federal trial court levels, including general commercial litigation, securities class action defense, trademark infringement defense, and products liability defense. He has assisted on a number of white-collar investigations and representations and has handled many aspects of civil litigation, including factual investigation, depositions, and motion practice. Since returning to Jones Day, Michael has been active in the defense of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company in connection with its federal "Engle progeny" cases.
Michael is member of the Atlanta Bar Association and the State Bars of New York, Georgia, and Florida. He is also a master in the Lamar Inn of Court.
