Michael Guo’s practice focuses on intellectual property litigation. He represents technology companies in trials and appeals before U.S. district courts, the Federal Circuit, the International Trade Commission, and the Patent Trial and Appeal Board.
Mr. Guo has experience with all aspects of IP litigation, from initial case assessment through trial and appeal. He has litigated a diverse range of technologies, including computer software and hardware, computer networking, computer security, semiconductor design and fabrication, digital video encoding, user interfaces, home security systems, wearable devices, smartphone apps, and exercise machines. In court, he has achieved favorable results for clients, such as winning motions to dismiss, obtaining findings of noninfringement, and invalidating patent claims in Patent Office proceedings. He also has experience with intellectual property counseling and advising on IP issues in technology transactions, financings, and mergers and acquisitions.
Prior to law school, Mr. Guo was a quantitative analyst at a boutique financial consulting firm, and later worked as a web developer. He also served in AmeriCorps at a San Francisco-based nonprofit.
Mr. Guo earned his J.D. from the UCLA School of Law, where he was an editor of the UCLA Law Review. During law school, he served as a judicial extern to the Honorable Ronald M. Whyte of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. He earned his B.S. in economics and electrical engineering/computer science at Yale University.
