Michael P. Whalen

Michael Whalen, a partner in the firm's Financial Services Group and member of its Banking and Consumer Financial Services practice areas, focuses on banking and consumer financial services law. He advises banks, bank holding companies, broker-dealers, mortgage companies and other financial institutions on a variety of transactional and regulatory matters. Mr. Whalen has extensive experience in mortgage lending, credit card and deposit account matters.

Mr. Whalen frequently assists financial institutions in a broad range of transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, mortgage loan purchase and servicing agreements, and credit card receivables purchase and participation agreements. In addition, he has prepared credit card agreements, deposit account agreements, home equity line of credit agreements, and other retail agreements, disclosures and documentation for his clients. Mr. Whalen regularly counsels financial institutions on regulations governing their operations and product offerings, including those relating to UDAAP, transactions with affiliates, truth in savings, reserve requirements, electronic funds transfers, funds availability, truth in lending, real estate settlement procedures, home mortgage disclosure, equal credit opportunity, fair housing, privacy, fair credit reporting, fair debt collection, flood disaster protection, community reinvestment, anti-money laundering, state laws and federal preemption of state laws.
