Michael R. Hamlin

Michael Hamlin, a Principal in the Boston office of Fish & Richardson, is a member of the firm’s strategic medical device industry group. His practice emphasizes patent prosecution, freedom-to-operate studies, opinions, due diligence investigations, and licensing. He has experience working with clients whose businesses focus on a wide range of technologies, including medical devices, sporting goods, consumer products, machine tools, and automotive design and manufacturing.

Mr. Hamlin has extensive experience conducting freedom-to-operate studies and drafting noninfringement/invalidity opinions that help his clients to assess and manage risk associated with launching new products. Additionally, Mr. Hamlin has conducted a large number of intellectual property due diligence investigations to assist clients with determining the value of intellectual property to be acquired in connection with mergers and acquisitions. His portfolio management experience has enabled his clients to develop robust portfolios that deliver value back to the business and protect their intellectual property. Additionally, Mr. Hamlin has experience negotiating and drafting license agreements for his clients.

Somewhat uniquely, Mr. Hamlin is also frequently involved in patent litigation matters, which has provided him with valuable experience to better advise his clients in all areas of his practice.

In addition to the client work discussed above, Mr. Hamlin serves as the recruiting principal for Fish & Richardson’s Boston office.
