N. Scott Fletcher

Scott Fletcher is a trial lawyer with extensive experience handling securities and complex commercial cases. He regularly defends companies and individuals throughout the United States in securities litigation, shareholder actions, fiduciary and governance cases, as well as claims arising from mergers and acquisitions. Scott has tried commercial and intellectual property cases to verdict in federal and state courts and has obtained several multimillion dollar awards in arbitration.

Scott regularly represents companies, board committees, officers, and directors in internal investigations and government enforcement investigations relating to accounting issues, foreign corrupt practices, insider trading, and other regulatory matters. As a member of the Delaware bar, Scott also advises companies on governance and fiduciary duty issues relating to proposed transactions and threatened litigation.

Prior to joining Jones Day in 2010, Scott was co-chair of the securities litigation group at an international law firm based in Houston, where he also served as firmwide pro bono chair. His experience includes extensive representation of energy companies, investment banks, and hardware and software companies. He has served as lead counsel in dozens of securities and commercial cases, and he has led the briefing and argued appellate cases in both federal and state courts.

Scott is a Fellow of the Texas and Houston Bar Foundations and a director of Texas Appleseed and the Jung Center of Houston. He was formerly chair of the Houston Bar Association's Securities Litigation and Arbitration Section and co-chair of the Securities Litigation, IPO Litigation Subcommittee of the ABA Litigation Section. Scott is currently the head of litigation for the Houston Office of Jones Day.
