Dr. Ognian Shentov focuses on patent, trade secret, copyright, and complex-technology matters in the electronics, telecommunications, software, medical device, and financial industries. He represents large and sophisticated companies in these industries, and advises clients on complex IP portfolio management and monetization.
Oggie’s recent representations include a trial involving medical devices in which he obtained what is reportedly the largest civil verdict in the history of New Hampshire, affirmed en banc by the Federal Circuit. He defended DirecTV in a case concerning satellite and digital television, and Lenovo in a case about the MPEG video compression standard; appeared for several defendants in a case about dynamic web page generation; defended Chevron in a trade secret misappropriation dispute concerning high-throughput technology; handled two open source software copyright infringement cases; and directed a joint defense group of international companies in a semiconductor manufacturing case. His past litigation practice includes New Hampshire and various districts in New York, Texas, and California. Prior to joining Jones Day, Oggie was a partner at Pennie & Edmonds, LLP.
Oggie is a vice chair of the U.S. Patent Law Committee of the Intellectual Property Owners (IPO) association and member of its Corporate IP Management Committee. He also is a member of the Patent Litigation Committee of the NYIPLA. He has written several technical journal articles, and has contributed to a book on digital signal processing. Oggie frequently participates in panel discussions concerning intellectual property, and has published on issues of patent law and IP management.
