Shawn Wood serves as national chair of Seyfarth Shaw LLP’s Commercial Litigation Practice Group. He has over 20 years of experience representing companies and individuals in commercial litigation and product liability matters, including breach of contract and post-acquisition disputes, injunction hearings, and matters involving breach of fiduciary duty, wrongful death, defamation, fire loss claims, and disputes over corporate governance. Shawn also serves as national counsel for an affiliated group of appliance manufacturers in connection with their commercial and product liability litigation.
Shawn is a member of the Federal Trial Bar in the Northern District of Illinois. He has won cases in state and federal courts throughout the country, including in Texas, California, North Carolina, Iowa, and Illinois. He has also prevailed as lead appellate counsel before the United States Fifth and Seventh Circuit Courts of Appeal and the Illinois First District Appellate Court.
Shawn has published and presented on a wide range of topics relevant to civil practice, commercial litigation and product liability. He co-authors the Illinois State Bar Association Civil Practice Handbook chapter regarding motion practice and serves as an annual presenter at the ISBA Civil Practice Conference. Shawn serves by appointment on the Civil Practice Council of the Illinois State Bar Association and as ISBA liaison to the Seventh Circuit E-Discovery Pilot Program Committee. He is also a featured columnist in Chicago Lawyer magazine and a recipient of its Annual Writing Award. He was previously honored by the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin as part of its “40 under 40” listing and selected by his peers as an Illinois “Leading Lawyer” in appellate practice and commercial litigation. Most recently, Shawn was listed among The Best Lawyers in America® in commercial litigation, and the Commercial Litigation Practice Group that he chairs was ranked among the nation’s “Best Law Firms” by Best Lawyers® and U.S. News & World Report, including 2014 Tier 1 rankings in Chicago and Los Angeles.
