Paul A. Zevnik is a partner in Morgan Lewis's Litigation Practice, resident in the Washington, D.C. and Los Angeles offices, and co-chair of the firm's Insurance Recovery Practice. Mr. Zevnik's principal area of practice is insurance coverage advice and litigation, with an emphasis on environmental, asbestos, toxic tort, and product liability coverage disputes, and mortgage insurance; and directors and officers and other forms of errors and omissions coverage. Mr. Zevnik also has experience in transactions in the insurance, broadcasting, and media businesses, including tax-driven transactions and restructurings involving IRC §468B qualified settlement funds and insurance captives, as well as reorganizations pursuant to section 524g of the United States Bankruptcy Code.
Mr. Zevnik has successfully conceived of and managed complex comprehensive insurance recovery projects for Fortune 500 companies in the energy, manufacturing, food, and technology industries, among others, including for diverse companies such as PepsiCo, ITT Corporation, Sunoco, Inc., Sara Lee Corporation, Kraft Foods, and Mondelez, Tyco, and Pentair. Significant reported cases include Domtar v. Niagara Fire Insurance Company, 563 N.W.2d 724 (Minn. 1997), and UNR Indus., Inc. v. Continental Cas. Co., 942 F.2d 1101 (7th Cir. 1991), cert. denied, Continental Cas. Co. v. UNR Indus., Inc., 112 S.Ct. 1586 (1992).
He is one of the founders and a current principal shareholder, lead director, and member of the Audit and Compensation Committees of Entravision Communications Corporation, a New York Stock Exchange Company (NYSE:EVC) and the nation's largest publicly traded multimedia company focusing on the Hispanic consumer in the United States and Northern Mexico. Entravision is the country's largest affiliate group of the Univision Network.
From 1993 to 2003, Mr. Zevnik was founding and managing partner of a multicity national law firm of approximately 90 lawyers, Zevnik Horton LLP. Prior to 1993, he litigated or advised on a variety of commercial disputes, including private and public breach of contract cases, breach of warranty actions involving the sale of complex machinery, and suits against the United States under the Tucker Act.
Mr. Zevnik has also established and endowed ongoing scholarship programs for Hispanic students at various educational institutions including Harvard University, Boston College, St. Albans School, and Phillips Exeter Academy.
Mr. Zevnik is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia, California, and Pennsylvania and before the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Tax Court, the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
