With more than 40 years of professional experience, Mr. Freehling has tried cases in both state and federal courts and before arbitration tribunals, and he has argued before three U.S. Circuit Courts of Appeal as well as the Illinois Appellate Court. His experience includes a wide variety of complex litigated matters, including securities fraud and deceptive trade practice matters; fraud class actions; employment discrimination actions under Title VII, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, and the Americans with Disabilities Act; insurance coverage disputes; antitrust cases; corporate control contests; actions under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act, and other consumer credit laws; business tort cases; defamation (libel and slander); and will contests and trust construction matters.
Additionally, Mr. Freehling has significant experience in alternative dispute resolution both as a neutral and as an advocate. He has been appointed to the Roster of Distinguished Neutrals by the CPR Institute for Dispute Resolution, the premier organization for alternative methods of dispute resolution. He has been certified as an arbitrator by the American Arbitration Association, the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, and the National Futures Association, and he has been trained as a mediator by U.S. Arbitration and Mediation of Illinois. Drawing on this experience, Mr. Freehling is very familiar with representing clients before alternative dispute forums, and he has received numerous favorable resolutions in these matters on behalf of his clients.
Mr. Freehling represents clients in a wide variety of industries, including consumer goods, consumer finance, packaging and materials handling, not-for-profit corporations, and government contracting. Mr. Freehling can assist in patent litigation and other litigation involving complex technology.
