Paul Rafferty practices complex business litigation with emphasis on the defense and disposal of class actions. He has litigated in state and federal courts throughout the country, most recently winning a four month trial in Orange County Superior Court, Civil Complex Center. He has prevailed in international arbitrations in New York, France, and Spain.
Paul manages and derails expensive class actions. His last four class actions were never class certified, and were ended by a variety of means; summary judgment; motions to compel individual arbitration; and outright denial of class certification efforts.
Paul also possesses extensive energy experience in oil and gas disputes, having represented Chevron USA, Inc. for 20 years in real estate, refinery, contract, pipeline, downstream retail, and class action work.
Finally, Paul successfully handles cases of media interest and has controlled media pressure for his clients on the following matters: Beach Access vs. Dr. Laura Schlessinger, defamation and First Amendment action; John Doe vs. Cobra, a multimillion dollar automobile dispute previously owned by Phil Spector; Dvorchak vs. eMachines, one of Orange County's largest securities class actions; and U.S. Govt. adv. Yanks Air Museum, a highly publicized seizure by the U.S. government of F-14 aircraft.
In his community, Paul has managed little league teams, softball teams, numerous AYSO soccer teams, and assisted as a coach for JAM Patriots Football.
