Paul Ferdinands

is a partner in King & Spalding’s Atlanta office and is the head of the firm’s Financial Restructuring Practice Group. His practice encompasses a broad range of bankruptcy, restructuring, and corporate matters.

Mr. Ferdinands specializes in representing purchasers and sellers of assets in Chapter 11 cases. His clients in distressed M&A transactions have included Lone Star Funds, Jack Cooper Holdings Corp, Zacky Farms, LLC, Reynolds Capital Group, Propex Inc., Atherogenics, Inc., Land South Holdings, LLC, Green Earth Fuels, LLC, Kelly Capital, Titan Financial Group, Dan River Inc., Russell Corporation, Arcapita, Inc., Total Care, Inc., NetRail, Inc., Rhodes, Inc., Sprint Corporation, The Home Depot U.S.A., Inc., Grupo IMSA, S.A. de C.V., General Electric Capital Corporation and UCB Films PLC.

Mr. Ferdinands has represented Chapter 11 debtors in a variety of industries, and his debtor clients have included Cagle’s, Inc. (vertically integrated poultry company), Stratus Group, Inc. (subprime auto leasing), Rhodes, Inc. (retail), Centennial HealthCare Corporation and its affiliates, The New Power Company and its affiliates (energy), International Total Services, Inc. (commercial security services), NetRail, Inc. (telecommunications) and Martin R. Shugrue, Jr., as Chapter 11 trustee in the Eastern Air Lines, Inc. bankruptcy case.

The representation of Cagle’s, Inc. by Mr. Ferdinands in connection with its Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing and the subsequent sale of its business was named 2013 National Transaction of the Year (Large Company Category) by the international Turnaround Management Association.

Mr. Ferdinands is a fellow in The American College of Bankruptcy. He has been selected for inclusion in Chambers USA’s Guide to America’s Leading Lawyers for Business, The Best Lawyers in America, The Legal 500 US (Corporate and Finance), Atlanta Magazine’s Super Lawyers, and Georgia Trend Magazine’s Legal Elite. Mr. Ferdinands is a director of the Southeastern Bankruptcy Law Institute and a past Chair of the Bankruptcy Section of the State Bar of Georgia, and he lectures frequently on bankruptcy issues before bar groups and in continuing legal education programs.

Mr. Ferdinands received his bachelor’s degree, with high distinction in economics, from the University of Virginia in 1983 and his law degree from Stanford University in 1986.
