Paul T. Nyffeler

With a focus on patent litigation and prosecution, Paul advises clients on how to protect intellectual property rights, with particular emphasis on biotechnology, chemicals, and life sciences. He leverages his scientific training and experience in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and chemical fields to assist companies and organizations deal with issues such as litigation, patent prosecution, and licensing.

Paul has worked in all aspects of litigation, including preparation of motions and pleadings, taking depositions, working directly with trial experts, conducting legal research, and managing discovery. Paul is also experienced in the prosecution of patent applications from various technical areas before the United States Patent and Trademark Office handling all aspects of prosecution, from patent application drafting to office action responses to examiner interviews.

Prior to joining Hunton & Williams, Paul served as a judicial intern for the Honorable Robert E. Payne in the Eastern District of Virginia and was named Special Advisor to the Court on Patent Matters by the Honorable Henry E. Hudson in the same district. He is a graduate of the National Trial Advocacy College at the University of Virginia School of Law. Paul is admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of the United States, Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, Eastern and Western Districts of Virginia, and the Western District of Michigan, as well as the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
