Peter D. Schellie

For more than 40 years, Peter Schellie has represented clients in all types of complex business situations, including mergers and acquisitions (representing buyers, sellers, equity and debt financing sources, and underwriters); divestitures; joint venture and teaming arrangements; venture capital financings; and complex financing transactions, including leveraged buyouts and structured finance.

Peter joined Bingham as a partner in 1981 to open our Washington, D.C., office. He remained partner for almost 30 years before moving to of counsel status. Throughout his career, Peter has been engaged in a number of corporate, financing and creditor rights matters on behalf of Raytheon Company, and has been Bingham’s principal contact with Raytheon. He has also represented financial sponsors in the structuring, negotiating, financing, implementing and restructuring of leveraged buyouts. Peter has represented corporate clients and joint ventures in a variety of transactions and represented both lenders and borrowers in corporate financings of all types. He has provided corporate advice on complex issues and situations to both public and private companies.

Additionally, Peter has represented senior secured lenders, unsecured creditors and others in connection with workouts and financial and corporate restructurings, both inside and out of bankruptcy. His work on financial and corporate restructurings, bankruptcies, and other large and complex financing and corporate transactions includes representing both official and ad hoc committees of creditors and bondholders. These engagements have included a full range of activities from informal, out-of-court workouts, to more formal and complex restructurings of multiple tranches of private, public and secured debt to contested Chapter 11 proceedings. He has represented lenders, creditors, investors and troubled companies in connection with large corporate workouts, bankruptcies and restructurings, both under consensual, non-bankruptcy arrangements and in bankruptcy court.
