Peter H. Werner

Peter H. Werner is a partner in Cooley's Business department and a member of Cooley's Emerging Companies practice group. He joined the Firm in 2001 and is resident in the San Francisco office. Peter is a member of Cooley's firm-wide technology committee and hiring committee.

Peter's practice primarily focuses on the representation of high-growth companies and their investors. He regularly assists clients with financings and mergers and acquisitions, in addition to entity formation, organization and governance matters and securities transactions.

Peter also is one of the curators of Cooley GO, a microsite with tools, forms, guidance and data for entrepreneurs and emerging companies.

Recent mergers and acquisitions on which Peter has worked include the sale of 24 Hour Fitness to AEA and others, the sale of 100+ to PracticeFusion, the sale of Aggregate Knowledge to Neustar, the sale of Brand.net to Valassis Communications, the sale of eMeter to Siemens, the sale of Ingenuity Systems to QIAGEN, the sale of Lookflow to Yahoo!, the purchase by Opera Software of Handster, the sale of Ringadoc to PracticeFusion, the purchase by salesforce.com of Assistly, the sale by Sverica International of Accuvant to Blackstone, the purchase by Sverica International of 7Summits, and the sale by Granular of its soil testing business to Monsanto.

Peter serves on the board of directors of the Full Circle Fund, a non-profit engaged philanthropy organization, and Imagine H2O, a non-profit organization accelerating solutions to water problems. He also serves as a mentor at MuckerLab, a Los Angeles-based startup accelerator. Peter has been listed in Northern California Super Lawyers as a Northern California Rising Star (2010, 2012, 2013, 2014).

Peter received a JD in 2001 from the University of Chicago Law School, where he was a John M. Olin Law and Economics Fellow. Peter received a BA from the University of California at Berkeley in 1997.
