Pierre M. Gentin is a member of Cahill’s litigation practice group. Mr. Gentin represents clients in disputes, litigation, investigations, and regulatory enforcement matters, with a focus on the financial services sector.
Before joining Cahill in October 2015, Mr. Gentin served for nearly two decades in senior legal and risk positions at Credit Suisse AG. As Managing Director and Global Head of Litigation and Regulatory Investigations, he advised the bank’s board of directors, executive management, and senior business personnel on litigation and regulatory enforcement issues arising before and after the financial crisis. Mr. Gentin represented Credit Suisse before government officials, supervisory regulators and enforcement staff worldwide, and he set litigation strategies for and negotiated the resolution of the bank’s most significant cases. In 2014, LawDragon named Mr. Gentin one of the 500 Leading Lawyers in America for his “masterful job managing Credit Suisse’s civil disputes, investigations and enforcement actions around the world” and in 2015 The Legal 500 named Mr. Gentin In House Litigation “Individual of the Year” for the United States. In 2016, American Lawyer Media featured Mr. Gentin’s arrival at Cahill in Corporate Counsel magazine’s January cover story, noting that he “helped navigate Credit Suisse through the roiling aftermath of the financial crisis” including “dealing with regulators” and “perfect[ing] the art of negotiation.”
At Credit Suisse, Mr. Gentin served on the firm-wide Global Leadership Council and he was a member of the General Counsel Division’s global management committee which ran the 2000-person legal and compliance organization. He supervised the bank’s litigation, investigations and employment law groups worldwide and worked with the bank's media relations, investor relations, public disclosure and accounting functions on the regular cycle of financial reporting and in the crisis management context. Mr. Gentin also structured and carried out a highly impactful cost-reduction program for external litigation expenses.
Mr. Gentin also held a senior role in the Risk Division as Credit Suisse’s Head of Reputational Risk for the Americas. He chaired the Americas Reputational Risk Council which evaluated the potential impact of transactions, trades and initiatives on the well-being of the bank. Earlier in his career at Credit Suisse, Mr. Gentin served as General Counsel for the Research Division, advising the bank’s equity, fixed income and high yield research analysts. He led Credit Suisse’s worldwide implementation of the 2003 research settlement among Wall Street firms and U.S. federal and state securities regulators, and he co-chaired the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association’s Global Fixed Income Research Task Force.
