Gordon concentrates his practice in the areas of healthcare, corporate finance and securities, mergers, acquisitions, and securities compliance and enforcement. He has represented the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Plan in Virginia since 1970. He previously served on the board of directors of Trigon Healthcare, Inc. and Scott & Stringfellow, Inc., and as general counsel to Signet Corporation. He is a former president of the Virginia Bar Association, a member of the American Law Institute, and a fellow of the American Bar Association.

After earning his law degree from Harvard Law School, Gordon received a Certificat d'Etudes Politique from the University of Bordeaux. He served as law clerk for the Honorable Griffin B. Bell of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. As an undergraduate at the University of Virginia, Gordon was honored as a member of Omicron Delta Kappa.
