Randy K. Jones

Randy represents clients in a wide range of complex commercial litigation matters requiring top-caliber trial counsel, with an emphasis on high stakes business disputes, government investigations, corporate compliance, fraud and white collar criminal defense.

Prior to joining Mintz Levin, Randy served in the Department of Justice (DOJ) as an Assistant US Attorney for more than 28 years. A veteran trial lawyer and mentor, Randy has tried federal cases before juries involving white-collar fraud schemes, financial crimes, complex criminal conspiracy cases, immigration and violent crime matters; authored and argued numerous appellate briefs; and successfully negotiated guilty pleas in hundreds of other federal criminal cases. Randy has worked closely with law enforcement agents on both small and large investigations, and has experience handling securities fraud, tax fraud, bankruptcy fraud, mail and wire fraud, Hobbs Act extortion cases, trademark violations, and compliance matters. He has represented the United States in all phases of trial advocacy and litigation, including formal discovery, pre-trial settlement negotiation, expert witness preparation, federal grand jury proceedings, drafting of legal documents, and preparation and presentation of briefs and oral arguments before US Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Randy’s experience conducting complex grand jury investigations gives him invaluable insight into the needs of corporate boards interested in conducting internal investigations into alleged wrongdoing by their companies and executives.

A graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law, Randy began his legal career as a member of the US Navy Judge Advocate General’s Corps, where he distinguished himself as an outstanding trial attorney and highly regarded legal advisor. During his active duty military service, Randy tried more than 200 felony jury trials and provided expert legal advice and staff assistance to senior United States Navy officers and executives on a wide variety of military, domestic, and international legal matters. Randy served on active duty and in the reserves for 29 years until his retirement (in 2011) with the rank of Commander.
