Reed Smith is an associate in the Litigation department at Cooley LLP, and is resident in the New York office. He joined the Firm in 2007.

Mr. Smith represents clients in criminal, civil and regulatory matters.

Mr. Smith served as a law clerk to the Honorable Robert S. Smith, Associate Judge of the New York State Court of Appeals, from 2005 to 2007. Prior to his clerkship, Mr. Smith was a Staff Attorney with the Legal Aid Society in New York City, where his practice focused on criminal and capital appellate litigation.

Mr. Smith received his JD degree from New York University School of Law in 1998, graduating cum laude. He earned a MSt in Philosophy from the University of Oxford in 1995. In 1991, he graduated with first class honors in philosophy from the London School of Economics and Political Science, where he was awarded the University of London Gerstenberg Prize and the Andrea Mannu Prize in Philosophy.

Mr. Smith is a member of the New York State Bar and is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York and the. U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
