On June 10, 2021, Thorsen, on behalf of his client Carol Dibattiste and USAA insurance, tried a civil case in Fairfax County General District Court in Virginia and lost. His law firm and USAA spent four years trying to get out of USAA's responsibility to pay damages to me following a car accident in Reston, VA in 2017, whereby Dibattiste made a lane change, clipped another car that flipped over, and traveled 100+ feet and smashed into my car, which was stopped at a red light. She was ticketed at the scene and later convicted of failure to keep her car under control. On behalf of USAA, Thorsen offered me about $6100 to settle. I rejected the absurd offer, which didn't even cover my out-of-pocket costs. I am not a lawyer, and as a plaintiff I filed and tried the case myself. Thorsen should have kicked my butt. Dibattiste, a former political appointee in the Obama administration and a lawyer herself, traveled from her home in Florida to Fairfax County to testify at the trial. After more than 2 hours, the judge ruled in my favor and awarded me $18,000. In my view, Thorsen was unprepared for trial, and he poorly advised USAA to take the case to trial. He wasted his clients' money and the taxpayers' money. If you want more information, go the the Fairfax County General District Court website, or feel free to email me.
