Richard J. Anderson



Richard J. Anderson is a Principal in the Twin Cities office of Fish & Richardson and serves as the firm’s Chief Operating Officer. As COO, Mr. Anderson is responsible for all of the firm’s administrative functions globally and oversees the firm’s financial management. He also works with the firm’s administrative department heads to ensure exceptional quality and continuous improvement in all administrative processes. Mr. Anderson serves an ex officio member of the firm’s Management Committee and chairs the firm’s Intake Committee, which is responsible for evaluating new business opportunities and managing ethical conflicts. As chair of the Intake Committee, Mr. Anderson reengineered all of the firm’s intake processes.

Prior to his appointment as COO, Mr. Anderson served on the firm’s Management Committee for fourteen years, helping to create and implement the firm’s strategic plan and expand the firm’s global footprint. In addition, for nine years he served as Group Leader for the Patent Group, one of the firm’s largest practice groups. Under his leadership, the group established a reputation as the premier firm for patent portfolio strategy, planning, prosecution, and management, and became a leader in handling post-grant validity proceedings.

Mr. Anderson co-founded the firm’s Twin Cities office and served as firm wide hiring principal during a time when the firm’s number of offices tripled.

Mr. Anderson continues to maintain a legal practice that emphasizes patent prosecution, infringement and validity opinions, as well as patent litigation and appellate matters.
