Richard McKim Preston

Mr. Preston is a partner in the firm’s Construction Practice Group and focuses his practice on U.S. and international construction disputes, as well as government contracts. He is the former Chair of the Construction Group. Mr. Preston is the author of “Alternatives to the Courthouse,” published by the Construction Law Advisor; co-author of the Contractor’s Handbook of Business, Finance, and Law; and author of ASCE’s Manual #73, Quality in the Constructed Project. He has also served as editor of the Public Contract Law Journal. He has represented private and public clients in disputes before U.S. courts and in domestic and international arbitration proceedings. Mr. Preston is currently recognized by the following publications as one of America’s leading international construction attorneys: The Best Lawyers in America, Chambers USA (Construction), The International Who’s Who of Construction Lawyers, PLC Which Lawyer? (Construction), and Washington D.C.'s Super Lawyers. Mr. Preston has served as an arbitrator and DRB member in dozens of dispute resolution proceedings administered by the AAA, ICC, and other organizations.

Mr. Preston is a regular speaker at programs sponsored by the American Institute of Architects, American Society of Civil Engineers, Engineering News Record and the Design Build Institute of America. He has served as a member of the Board of Governors of the Washington Building Congress and has served as Adjunct Professor, George Washington University, teaching “Law for Engineers,” a graduate engineering course in legal theory and methods, including basic contract law and government contracts.
