Robert A. Lemus

Robert Lemus is an experienced litigator with a focus on complex commercial disputes, government and internal investigations, and privacy and data security issues. He represents a broad spectrum of commercial clients, from upstream, midstream, and downstream energy companies to manufacturers and retailers. Robert has counseled clients in numerous federal and Texas courts.

Robert has defended several clients against breach of contract claims and deceptive trade practices claims, successfully settling the litigation to the client’s satisfaction before trial. He has experience in representing clients in response to government investigations, and in conducting internal investigations in response to various crises.

Robert recently served as lead counsel defending a retailer against a products defect claim. Despite several attempts to resolve the matter amicably, the plaintiff insisted on going to trial where the jury returned a unanimous verdict in favor of the defendant. He also served on the team that represented the drilling contractor in the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill litigation.

Robert is a member of Eversheds Sutherland (US)'s Privacy and Data Security Group, and has been a co-presenter of several cybersecurity presentations.

Before joining Eversheds Sutherland (US), Robert worked as an Assistant Attorney General in the Consumer Protection and Public Health Division of the Office of the Attorney General for the State of Texas. In this capacity, he was responsible for representing the State of Texas in a variety of litigation and investigations, particularly the enforcement of the Deceptive Trade Practices—Consumer Protection Act and as an enforcement attorney for the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services and the Texas Department of State Health Services. Robert was also a member of the Consumer Protection Division’s Internet Enforcement Unit, which specialized in investigating offences and enforcing civil penalties in internet commerce, including spam, spyware, hacking, other privacy violations, and deceptive trade practices.
