Robert is a first chair trial lawyer who focuses his practice on complex business and banking litigation. He has tried cases to jury verdict in state and federal courts and has handled a wide variety of business disputes around the country. In his financial services litigation practice, Robert has represented large financial institutions in various consumer related lawsuits, including nationwide mortgage litigation.

In his motorsports practice, Robert represents team owners and drivers in various aspects of the business. He has negotiated major driver contracts and sponsor deals within NASCAR's top series. In his pro bono practice, Robert is routinely appointed to represent indigent criminal defendants and has tried numerous criminal cases to jury verdict.

Prior to joining McGuireWoods, Robert clerked for Chief Justice Jean H. Toal on the South Carolina Supreme Court and co-authored Appellate Practice In South Carolina. In 1997, Robert founded the South Carolina Children’s Emergency Foundation which raises money for emergency shelters in South Carolina for abused and neglected children. Robert sits on the Board of Directors of the Greg Biffle Foundation which provides support for animal shelters across the country.
