Robert A. Scott

Rob Scott is a seasoned trial lawyer whose practice focuses on consumer finance litigation, real estate disputes and class action defense.

Rob defends banks, mortgage servicers and other financial institutions against claims brought under state and federal consumer statutes, including the federal TCPA, FCRA, FDCPA, TILA, RESPA and the Maryland Consumer Protection Act. He has successfully litigated numerous contested foreclosures and other mortgage-related lawsuits, including high-profile claims related to alleged “robo-signing” by lenders and their foreclosure counsel. Rob also has litigated hundreds of real estate and title disputes involving competing deeds, forged instruments, specific performance, adverse possession, prescriptive easements and lien avoidance for financial institutions, title insurers, lenders and property owners. He also has represented clients and businesses in disputes involving commercial contracts and leases, real estate development projects and commercial construction.

Rob has successfully tried cases to judgment in state and federal courts across Maryland and in the District of Columbia. He is also an accomplished appellate lawyer, having successfully briefed and argued numerous appeals, including several cases involving novel issues of Maryland real property law.
Prior to attending law school, Rob worked as a newspaper reporter in Connecticut, covering state and local politics. After his 1995 graduation summa cum laude from the University of Baltimore School of Law, Rob served as law clerk to the Hon. Howard S. Chasanow on the Court of Appeals of Maryland. In 1996, he joined the Baltimore office of Ballard Spahr LLP, later becoming a partner in the firm. He joined Treanor Pope & Hughes in 2016.

In addition to his law practice, Rob served as an adjunct professor at the University of Baltimore School of Law, where he taught an advanced course on Maryland Civil Procedure. He also served for 10 years on the board of the Loading Dock, Inc., a nonprofit agency in Baltimore dedicated to the reuse and redistribution of salvaged and surplus building materials.

Rob has been married for more than 25 years and has two children. In his free time, he enjoys hiking, backpacking, cooking and traveling.
