Robert J. Esposito

Robert Esposito focuses his practice on intellectual property and commercial litigation. He has argued dispositive motions in state and federal court and has briefed and argued appeals in the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, the 9th Circuit Bankruptcy Appellate Panel and the California Court of Appeal.

Mr. Esposito represents clients in a broad range of commercial disputes and has extensive experience representing financial institutions in disputes involving mortgage loan purchase agreements and loan servicing.

Mr. Esposito represents clients in copyright, trademark and trade dress disputes involving apparel, footwear, furniture and food and wine. His accomplishments include obtaining an ex parte order for the seizure of counterfeit furniture and winning a preliminary and permanent injunction on behalf of a nationwide retailer.

As a member of the Life Sciences Team, Mr. Esposito represents clients in patent disputes involving technologies such as microfluidics devices, methods and devices for protein assays and pharmaceuticals. Mr. Esposito has also represented clients in patent disputes concerning educational software and devices and electronic voting software and devices.

Mr. Esposito represents pro-bono clients primarily in the area of LGBT rights. He recently contributed to two amicus briefs on behalf of Family Equality Council, COLAGE and Our Family Coalition in the U.S. Supreme Court cases Hollingsworth vs. Perry and United States vs. Windsor.

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Esposito was a fellow with the Federal Pro Bono Project of the Volunteer Legal Services Program, where he provided limited scope assistance to pro se litigants in the District Court for the Northern District of California.

In law school, Mr. Esposito was a member of the Berkeley Technology Law Journal and California Law Review. Mr. Esposito also worked at the Berkeley Law, Technology and Public Policy Clinic.

Mr. Esposito has a B.S. in general chemistry from UCLA, where he earned the Ramsey Award for Excellence in Physical Chemistry and departmental highest honors.
