Robert J. Nobile

Robert J. Nobile is a partner in the New York office of Seyfarth Shaw LLP. He specializes in labor and employment law. He holds a B.A. degree from Adelphi University, an M.S. from the Long Island University, and a J.D. from the St. John’s University School of Law. Mr. Nobile is in “The International Who’s Who of Business Lawyers”, a publication identifying him as one of the leaders in the field of management labor and employment law. Mr. Nobile was nominated for this publication by law firm clients and labor and employment lawyers from around the world. He has also been ranked as a leading expert in Employment Law in “The Legal 500 US: Volume IV: Real Estate, Employment & Labor and Tax” publication. Mr. Nobile is also a fellow in the College of Labor and Employment. He was also rated in the top five percent of attorneys in New York State by New York Superlawyers.

Mr. Nobile is involved in all areas of client representation including: day-to-day advice and counsel in all areas of labor and employment law (e.g., employment discrimination including handling issues involving sexual and other forms of employee harassment, disability discrimination, age discrimination, reductions-in-force, WARN, policy and procedure development, etc.); administrative litigation; management training regarding sexual harassment and EEO; mediations and arbitrations, etc. Mr. Nobile handles a variety of affirmative action matters for clients, including assisting clients with affirmative action plan development, preparing for and guiding companies through compliance evaluations, including “glass ceiling” audits (i.e., Corporate Management Reviews), conducting audit-readiness training, responding to allegations of compensation and other forms of discrimination, and Notices of Violations, negotiating Conciliation Agreements, and the like. In addition, Mr. Nobile devotes a substantial portion of his practice to handling a variety of wage and hour-related matters arising under the Federal Fair Labor Standards Act and state wage and hour laws. This includes advising clients regarding the proper exemption status of their employees; recommending alternative approaches to the payment of overtime; conducting wage and hour audits to ensure client compliance with the FLSA’s exemption provisions; representing clients before the federal and state departments of labor during audits and in negotiating settlements, and the like.

Prior to commencing the practice of law more than thirty years ago, Mr. Nobile spent 10 years working as a practitioner in the Human Resources field, in such capacities as Corporate Director of Personnel and Chief Human Resources Officer for the American Bank Note Company, and Director of Personnel/Labor Relations for Mego International, Inc., and as Compensation Analyst for the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He is also a Professor in the Graduate School of Management at St. Joseph’s College, an Adjunct Professor at Cornell University, and has also taught at the St. John’s University School of Law. Courses he teaches include Legal Aspects of Business; Employment Law; Policy and Procedure and Employee Handbook Development; EEO and The Law; Employment-at-Will; Affirmative Action; and Fundamentals of Human Resources. He also has lectured frequently at the American Management Association on a variety of employment-related issues.
