Bob Gaffey has represented clients at the trial and appellate levels in federal and New York state courts and before arbitration tribunals in cases involving a range of subject areas, including banking, commercial fraud, securities, foreign exchange, product liability, shareholder and partnership disputes, and other commercial matters. Bob is co-leader of the Firm's Securities Litigation & SEC Enforcement Practice.

Bob is an experienced trial lawyer, having tried a number of cases in private practice and during his tenure as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Southern District of New York. Recently, Bob was lead trial counsel in the Firm's representation of Lehman Brothers Holdings in a 35-day trial against Barclays Capital, seeking recovery of up to $13 billion on claims arising from the sale of the Lehman broker-dealer business to Barclays shortly after the Lehman bankruptcy.

A number of Bob's representations have involved clients, litigation, or discovery outside the United States. In those cases, he has developed extensive experience in dealing with discovery under the Hague Convention, foreign secrecy laws and blocking statutes, other techniques for fact development outside the United States for use in U.S. litigation, and advising foreign clients regarding the legal implications of business involvement in the United States. He also has represented clients in civil investigations conducted by government regulatory agencies.

Bob has taught legal writing and advocacy as an adjunct professor at Fordham Law School and also has served as an instructor at Hofstra Law School's Intensive Trial Advocacy Program.
