Royce Poinsett is a senior attorney in the Government Affairs Practice Group at Gardere. He is a government relations attorney and registered lobbyist at the Texas Capitol, providing long-term representation to prominent corporations and industry associations that require a constant and effective presence in the Austin policy arena. Royce uses his experience and relationships at the Texas Capitol to monitor political developments, manage legislative efforts, obtain economic development incentives and advocate at state agencies. He also provides “crisis management counsel” to businesses facing sudden legal or political threats in Texas, navigating clients through public affairs controversies, investigations and legislative attacks.
Royce began his government relations practice following a long public service career at the Texas Capitol, where he advised Governor Rick Perry and then House Speaker Tom Craddick through 11 regular and special legislative sessions. Previously, he served elected officials from both sides of the political aisle, including former U.S. President George W. Bush during his term as governor of Texas, U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison, U.S. Congressman Sam Johnson and former Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley during his term as Baltimore City Councilman.
