Ryan has nearly fifteen years of experience litigating complex business and intellectual property disputes throughout the country. He has served as trial counsel for large and small companies in more than 100 disputes involving complex technology and business issues. He is a focused, results oriented litigator who is known for achieving his client’s goals in the most targeted and efficient manner.

Prior to founding Tyz Marton Schumann LLP, Ryan was a litigation partner at Fenwick & West LLP, an international law firm known for handling high stakes litigations for technology companies.

Ryan has a strong track record of achieving early victories for defendants in patent litigation. For example, Ryan recently obtained a judgment on the pleadings invalidating all asserted claims in a patent case for Amazon.com in the Western District of Texas. Ryan also obtained summary judgment of non-infringement on all asserted claims for Twitter in a patent case in the District of Delaware. Similarly, Ryan obtained summary judgment of non-infringement on all asserted claims for Groupon in a patent case in the Middle District of Florida.

Ryan also has a strong track record of success at trial. He obtained a defense jury verdict of non-infringement and invalidity for client Amazon.com. Ryan also successfully co-tried a difficult trade secrets matter involving complex polymer chemistry used to make silicon ink.

While in law school, Ryan served as an extern clerk to the Honorable Phyllis J. Hamilton of the United States District Court for the Northern District of California.
