Ryan has over a decade of experience litigating complex business and intellectual property disputes across the country in a broad array of technologies. He has served as trial counsel in litigation involving competitors, defended dozens of companies in patent suits brought by patent assertion entities, and advised clients on a host of legal issues affecting their business. He is extremely knowledgeable in all aspects of litigation—from pre-suit investigation through trial, and a highly skilled and passionate advocate.

Prior to founding Tyz Marton Schumann, Ryan founded tyzlaw litigation & counseling in January 2015, representing clients in intellectual property and commercial matters. Prior to that, he spent over ten years as an attorney in Fenwick & West’s nationally recognized intellectual property litigation group in Silicon Valley representing technology clients.

Ryan served as trial counsel for Zillow in a patent litigation brought by a competitor, LendingTree v. Zillow et al. (W.D.N.C.), managing the litigation from its inception and winning a complete defense jury verdict of non-infringement and invalidity at trial.
