Sarah H B Kahl

Sarah Kahl is Counsel in the firm's Tax and Wealth Planning Group. She focuses her practice on tax and estate planning for individuals and families. She also represents fiduciaries and beneficiaries on the proper administration of a trust under Maryland law.

With her CPA background, Ms. Kahl reviews a client's entire financial picture to tailor appropriate tax strategies to the particular client. She designs and implements wealth transfer strategies such as grantor retained annuity trusts, life insurance trusts, sales to grantor trusts, and private annuities. She advises on the most tax-efficient way for a client to make a gift or administer a trust. She particularly enjoys working with families at multiple generation levels and leading family meetings to facilitate frictionless wealth succession.

Ms. Kahl helps clients leave charitable legacies, for example, through the use of a charitable remainder trust, conservation easements, or the creation and maintenance of a private foundation. She helps clients reach charitable goals by drafting comprehensive gift agreements with recipient charities.

With her trust practice, Ms. Kahl advises trustees on how to comply with the terms of the trust document and Maryland law. She also advises trust beneficiaries on their rights with respect to a trust.

Activities
Ms. Kahl is a Certified Public Accountant (inactive). She serves on the Board of Advocates for Survivors of Torture and Trauma (ASTT). She serves on the planning committee for the AICPA Advanced Personal Financial Planning Conference and chairs the AICPA Northeast Personal Financial Planning Networking Group. Ms. Kahl co-chairs Venable's initiative group for women financial professionals, Baltimore Women Leaders in Tax and Finance.
