Scott M. Iyama

Scott Iyama,

a partner in the Silicon Valley and San Francisco offices, is a member of Orrick’s Technology Companies Group.

Mr. Iyama provides key tactical guidance to leading technology, life science, and digital health companies throughout their life cycle and has completed hundreds of private financings and numerous mergers, acquisitions and partnering transactions. In recognition for such work, The Recorder recently named Mr. Iyama as one of its “Lawyers on the Fast Track.”

Mr. Iyama is an experienced advisor who leverages his technical experience as a member of research and development teams at Genentech (Virology R&D Group) and the NASA Ames Research Center (Advanced Displays Lab) to provide a unique business and legal perspective to companies commercializing disruptive solutions in technology and healthcare. His most notable work with technology companies includes advising on Orrick’s representation of Apple in connection with the acquisition of Siri, management of Orrick’s representation of Instagram, including the sale of the company to Facebook and general corporate representation of high growth technology companies such as Quora and ResearchGate.

A key focus of Mr. Iyama’s practice is the representation of life science and healthcare companies. Mr. Iyama represents companies founded by leading scientists and clinicians at UC San Francisco, Stanford University, Stanford Medical School and UC Davis, each of which is developing and commercializing novel technologies with the aim to enhance the delivery of healthcare. From formation, to financings, to strategic transactions, Mr. Iyama has represented such companies, which include AcroMetrix (sold to Life Technologies), Aridis Pharmaceuticals, Crossover Health, Laserscope (sold to AMS), LS9 (sold to Renewable Energy Group), Precise Light Surgical and SBR Health.

Stemming from his experience and deep knowledge in the life sciences and technology industries, Mr. Iyama is a frequently sought after advisor, speaker and author on technology companies. He routinely volunteers his time with entrepreneur groups and frequently lectures at forums such as the National Cancer Institute, Stanford School of Medicine, Stanford Technology Venture Program and various industry conferences.
