Sheryl H. Love

In addition to preparing and trying patent infringement and other intellectual property cases, Sheryl Love has broad experience in counseling clients and in negotiating and drafting patent, trademark, copyright and right-of-publicity licenses, joint development, noncompetition, and other agreements.

Sheryl recently tried a three-patent case for EMCORE Corp. involving cable television transmitters to a jury, resulting in a verdict of invalidity and willful infringement, including obtaining summary judgment of infringement of one patent before trial. In a related case for EMCORE, Sheryl defeated the infringer's defense of inequitable conduct on summary judgment. She also has taken patent infringement cases involving lumbar supports and bar code scanners from complaint through hearing before an administrative law judge and review by the International Trade Commission. Sheryl litigates nonpatent matters, including a trade secrets and unfair competition case for BARBRI that was successfully settled shortly before trial.

Sheryl's transactional and licensing practice focuses on counseling, negotiating, and drafting a variety of intellectual property agreements, including patent licenses, joint development agreements, copyright licenses, right-of-publicity agreements, and noncompetition agreements under the trade secrets laws of various states. She also prosecutes trademark applications before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office.

Sheryl does not limit her litigation practice to intellectual property issues, and she has represented clients in numerous litigation matters, including negligence, accounting malpractice, breach of contract, and defamation. She has represented BARBRI, Bunge Limited, the Cleveland Browns, EMCORE Corp., the Jewish Community Federation of Cleveland, The Scott Fetzer Company, Symbol Technologies, Textron, and TOTO Ltd. in various matters.
