Sidney R. Brown

Sid Brown practices primarily in the areas of venture capital and intellectual property. He has represented venture capital fund and strategic investors and technology companies receiving venture capital funding. He has handled or been involved in various types of transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, private placements, leveraged buyouts, joint ventures, corporate restructurings, and shareholder disputes. In addition, he has extensive experience in intellectual property and technology matters, including computer software, e-commerce issues, the prosecution of trademark and copyright applications before the United States Patent and Trademark and Copyright Offices, trademark and copyright disputes, trademark and trade secret protection and misappropriation, merchandise and technology licensing, transfers, and counseling concerning such matters.

Sid's e-commerce practice involves issues related to doing business on the Internet, including Web site agreements and electronic contracting, privacy rights issues, protection of intellectual property, Internet-related joint ventures, and online contests and sweepstakes. He has served as national trademark enforcement counsel for such companies as General Time Corporation (Big Ben®, Westclox®, Seth Thomas®) and President Baking Company (Famous Amos® and Murray®) and national and international trademark enforcement counsel for Simmons Company (Beautyrest®). He is also experienced in structuring noncompetition agreements in connection with employees, franchises, and sales of businesses.

Sid is a member of the State Bar of Georgia (Corporate Counsel and Intellectual Property Sections), the Georgia Corporate Code Revision Committee, and the International Trademark Association.
