Spencer W. Ririe

Spencer W. Ririe is an associate practicing intellectual property law, with a focus on patent infringement litigation, in Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher’s Orange County office. He has represented patent infringement plaintiffs and defendants in matters involving diverse technologies such as stem cells, microchip fabrication and design, wireless communications, encryption algorithms, electronic navigation systems, and audio codecs. Mr. Ririe is experienced in all stages of patent infringement litigation including pre-filing investigations, fact and expert discovery, claim construction, summary judgment, trial (including pre- and post-trial motions), and appeal. Mr. Ririe is also an experienced patent prosecutor with an emphasis on medical devices and clean fuel technologies, having filed and successfully prosecuted to issuance patents both domestically and internationally.

Mr. Ririe graduated with high honors from The George Washington University Law School in 2006, where he also received the ABA-BNA Award in Intellectual Property and was elected to the Order of the Coif. While attending law school, Mr. Ririe interned with the chambers of the Honorable Richard Linn of the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Mr. Ririe earned a Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in chemical engineering, from Brigham Young University in 2002, where he was the recipient of numerous academic scholarships. He is admitted to the State Bar of California, the United States District Courts for the Northern and Central Districts of California and the Eastern District of Texas, and the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Mr. Ririe is a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association and the American Chemical Society, the world’s largest scientific society, where he currently serves as Secretary of the Society’s Southern California Section.
