Stanton Koppel is of counsel in the Paul Hastings San Francisco office. His practice focuses on advice and transactions in the financial services and payment systems area, including product design and related regulation, payment network marketing and sales agreements, risk management, technology acquisition and business acquisitions and spin-offs. He also practices in the area of corporate marketing sponsorships.

Previously, Mr. Koppel served as in-house counsel to Visa International and Visa U.S.A. Inc. for 28 years, the last 15 of which as senior vice president and assistant general counsel, providing counseling in every aspect of the companies’ global payment card businesses. In addition to his extensive experience in cards and payment systems, he has significant experience in online commerce, product development, technology infrastructure, acquisitions, governance and marketing.

Counseled in a variety of online commerce, remittance transfer and mobile payments projects, including counseling on anti-money laundering, privacy, consumer protection and remittance transfer regulatory compliance, joint services agreements, mobile and online wallet services; counseled the Central Bank of Russia on risk management in retail payment systems; merchant payments acceptance agreements; regulatory compliance due diligence supporting private equity investment; payments network interoperability agreement; and electronification of health care payments.
