Stephen is a member of the Commercial Litigation and Life Sciences & Health Care Litigation groups, and focuses his practice on products liability defense. At Reed Smith, he has defended manufacturers of a wide variety of products from medical devices and pharmaceuticals in mass tort litigation, to individual cases involving complicated machinery and equipment. Over the last 15 years of practice, Steve has defended manufacturers of a wide array of products in Virginia, Maryland and D.C. including heavy weight construction equipment, school bus engine components, aircraft, bullet traps, beer bottles, tennis shoes, electric wheelchairs and foreign objects in consumer food products. In each of his products cases, Steve works closely with scientific and medical experts.

As part of the commercial litigation group, Steve also regularly defends the leading financial institutions in consumer credit card and mortgage cases in local state and federal courts throughout Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia.

Stephen has extensive courtroom experience in each of his local jurisdictions. Stephen has tried over a dozen jury trials as first and second chair in federal and state courtrooms in Virginia, Maryland, Florida, Pennsylvania, and the District of Columbia, and has tried over 100 bench trials to verdict in Virginia and Maryland.

Steve serves as President and is on the Board of Directors for Legal Services of Northern Virginia, one of the largest legal aid providers in Virginia. He devotes his pro bono efforts to representing victims of domestic violence and has obtained more than 80 protective orders for his clients.
