Steven Schwarz is a partner in Venable’s Washington, DC office. His practice focuses on patents, with a particular focus on patent prosecution and strategic client counseling. Mr. Schwarz develops and implements worldwide patent strategies in technical fields such as energy, medical devices, industrial equipment, semiconductors, consumer electronics, and consumer products.
Mr. Schwarz works closely with clients through all phases of the product development cycle to evaluate and obtain effective patent protection, including strategic use of utility patents, design patents, and utility models. He also assists clients to avoid the patent rights of their competitors. In addition, Mr. Schwarz is active in technology licensing and due diligence.
Mr. Schwarz also routinely participates in patent litigation. He has represented clients in all phases of patent litigation from pre-complaint counseling though trial. Representative technologies include medical devices, electronics, consumer products, and food safety.
Mr. Schwarz is the immediate past chair of Intellectual Property Section of the Bar Association of the District of Columbia. He frequently writes and presents on various topics relating to U.S. patent law and practice, including AIA trials, design patents, and additive manufacturing (3D printing).
Mr. Schwarz is certified in German as a foreign language by the Goethe Institute.
