Tae Woong Koo

Tae-Woong Koo is an associate in Morgan Lewis's Intellectual Property Practice. Attorneys in this practice offer a full range of counseling, prosecution, licensing, and litigation services to U.S. and foreign enterprises in a variety of industries. We counsel clients on patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secret protection issues, as well as matters arising from franchising, advertising, the Internet and e-commerce, outsourcing, and managed services.

Prior to joining Morgan Lewis, Dr. Koo worked for Intel Corporation, where he held various positions, including senior research scientist, product line manager, and regulatory affairs manager. As a senior research scientist, Dr. Koo studied the use of optics in various applications including material analysis and molecular diagnostics, for which he received several recognition awards. He received more than 30 patents and published more than a dozen articles in the fields of optics, nanotechnology, material science, analytical chemistry, clinical chemistry, and biotechnology. As a regulatory affairs manager, Dr. Koo was responsible for product registration, regulatory compliance, adverse event monitoring and vigilance reporting, and import and export of medical devices. He obtained marketing clearance from medical device authorities in the United States, Canada, Australia, and EU countries. Dr. Koo is a certified regulatory affairs professional (RAC).

Dr. Koo received his J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law in 2009. He received his Ph.D. in 2001 and his S.M. in 1998, both from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and his B.S. in engineering from Seoul National University, Korea in 1996. Dr. Koo is fluent in Korean.

Dr. Koo is admitted to practice in California and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.
