Dr. Tamera (Tammy) Weisser's practice includes domestic and foreign patent portfolio development, management, and enforcement in biotechnology. For example, on behalf of MedImmune (AstraZeneca), Tamera managed the patent portfolio and strategy concerning the infant RSV therapy, Synagis®, a $500 million+/year drug. In addition, she developed a human antibody patent portfolio on behalf of Kyowa Hakko Kirin, subsequently licensed to Sanofi in a deal valued at over $300 million. On behalf of Isis Pharmaceuticals and Genzyme (Sanofi), Tamera developed and managed the patent portfolio surrounding Kynamro®, the first systemic antisense drug to reach the market. Other representative clients include BioMarin, Celgene, Genomatica, Genzyme, NGM Biopharmaceuticals, and Perlan.
Tammy also performs patent validity, noninfringement, and freedom-to-operate analyses and conducts due diligence of patent portfolios for potential investors, acquirers, and licensees, such as venture capital firms and biotechnology companies.
Prior to joining Jones Day in 2004, Tammy spent five years as a patent agent at an international law firm. She was also formerly a research scientist studying DNA-based vaccine technology at Agracetus, Inc. in Madison, Wisconsin and the Emory University Vaccine Research Center in Atlanta, Georgia.
Tammy is an active member of several local professional organizations, including Lawyers Club of San Diego (Board of Directors; 2014 annual dinner co-chair), the Association for Women in Science, San Diego (Board of Directors (2012-2013)), Athena, and the San Diego Intellectual Property Law Association. She has received numerous awards for being a top attorney and in recognition of her significant contribution and leadership within the San Diego community.
